Course Description & Objectives
Recently almost any intelligent human being is trying to understand what Artificial Intelligence (AI) is. Original images of AI from the movies have been gradually replaced by fear of losing jobs and being kicked out by the robots. Businesses are also concerned with the fast speed of AI invasion and the need to integrate it into their processes. As a result, there is a growing demand for learning the basics of AI. The first step in this learning focused on a broad audience, doesn’t require any knowledge of the participants beyond high school level (except the English language). The key objective is to understand in plain English without math and programming skills the nature of AI and the principles of its critical technologies. The proposed course will help them achieve this objective in 12 recorded lectures and six Q&A sessions.
The course will give the participants the needed understanding of the technical basis of AI. It includes awareness about the fundamental principles of the most critical methods, such as machine learning (with emphasis on neural networks and Support Vector Machines or SVM), deep learning, decision trees, and random forest, evolutionary computation, swarm intelligence, intelligent agents, and chatbots, and model ensembles. Another critical piece of knowledge that will be shared is the capability and applicability analysis of each AI method. That will help the participants understand the technical nature of AI and be encouraged to look for opportunities where to apply the technology. Most of the methods will be illustrated with appropriate software demos. The course, however, does not offer a detailed description of the methods and programming. It is expected that those participants who are interested in continuing deeper in the AI technology will take other appropriate courses.
This unique course is prepared by a leading international expert in applied AI based on his experience from introducing AI and training employees in several large US companies. The course is based on his book “Applying Data Science: How to Create Value with Artificial Intelligence,” recently published by Springer. (https://www.amazon.com/Applying-Data-Science-Artificial-Intelligence-dp-3030363740/dp/3030363740/ref=mt_other?_encoding=UTF8&me=&qid= ) This offers an advantage the participants will not find anywhere else.
There are no special technical or programming requirements for participants to take this course.
Who is this course for?
Anybody who is interested in understanding what AI is and where it can be applied.
Course Structure
The course includes 12 recorded lectures of around 50-60 minutes each. Lecture 1, “Current high-tech landscape,” gives an overview of the leading high-tech phenomena, such as data science, IoT, analytics, data mining, etc. Lecture 2, “Introduction to AI,” defines the technology and its different types and discusses the key concerns and myths related to AI. Lectures 3 to 9 include a description of the critical AI technologies by explaining their principles, strengths, weaknesses, and applicability. Lecture 3, “Machine learning – neural networks,” is focused on neural networks and Lecture 4, “Machine learning – support vector machines,” illustrates the powerful potential of this technology, based on statistical learning theory. Lecture 5 clarifies the capabilities of the fashionable deep learning technology. Lecture 6 covers decision trees and their modern version – random forest. Lecture 7 describes the powerful potential of evolutionary computation, and Lecture 8 introduces the unique opportunities of using the intelligence of ants and swarms of birds. Lecture 9 presents intelligent agents and the gaining popularity of chatbots. Building model ensembles is discussed in Lecture 10, and the critical issue of AI methods integration is covered in Lecture 11. The last Lecture 12 gives some ideas on how to explore the discussed methods with available software.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA
Dr. Kordon is an internationally recognized expert in the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to the industry. His clients include large and small businesses and consulting companies in the United States, Japan, South Korea, Germany, France, and Belgium. His current projects solve business problems in developing cognitive models of the enterprise, predictive maintenance, smart energy cost reduction analysis, commodity price forecasting, and office space optimization. He also advises his clients on how to integrate AI into their organizations and trains their specialists.
In his previous position as Scientific and Analytics Leader of the Artificial Intelligence Group at Dow Chemical – America’s largest chemical company, Dr. Kordon introduced several new AI-based solutions. They have improved and optimized manufacturing processes with enormous economic effect. He has US and worldwide patent and over 70 publications in the most prestigious journals and conferences in applied AI systems. He is the author of the book “Applying Computational Intelligence,” published by Springer, and co-author of the book “Applying Data Mining for Business Forecasting,” published by the SAS Institute.
He knows how to explain AI in plain English to an audience with no knowledge of the topic and inspire future business applications.
Our Promise
All students who successfully finish all four sections of the AI classes will have the opportunity to be interviewed and start a carrier in the AI field at one of our partners.
All class expenses will be reimbursed by the employer at that point.
